At this present state, there is no formal evidence of any state of the art in the areas of diagnosis or treatment of burnout syndrome. Multiple methods are currently being explored in both sectors and therefore research must be continued.
However, this does not mean that current diagnosis nor treatment methods do not work. There is simply no common consensus on the matter, hence the maintenance of the current status of burnout as a “non-specific” ailment in both the ICD and DSM-4R
